Depression is a Habit that I Chose to Break!

I Learnt It’s Like Going to a Bad Gym

The other day, a psychiatrist told me something that changed how I see depression.
He said our brains work like muscles – whatever we practice most grows stronger.

I thought about this for days.

When I first learned to ride a bike, I fell constantly. But the more I practiced, the more natural it felt.

Soon, I could ride without even thinking.
Depression works the exact same way.

Every time if you think "I’m worthless" or "Nothing matters," it’s like doing a rep at the gym.

At first, these thoughts feel forced. But the more we repeat them, the easier they come.

Soon, they feel automatic – like as if our brain is riding downhill without pedals.

But you know what's the hopeful part: happiness works exactly the same way.

Last week, I made myself notice the good things every day… and intentionally started following positive and creative things.
