That one spooky Halloween Story

The real story narrated by my Grand dad

When you hear “Halloween,” you probably think of spooky stuff. Well, not me. My Halloween experiences involve watching TV shows and enjoying candy. I don’t really know why we celebrate Halloween, but I do know it’s a blast when people dress up and pretend to be ghosts. And let’s not forget the amazing food — that’s the icing on the cake! I’d be just as happy going to a Halloween party just for the food as I would be getting a VIP ticket to a movie premiere.

But now, let’s get to the interesting part. I haven’t seen any ghosts myself, but I grew up listening to my grandpa’s stories. Every time we visited him, we’d ask him to tell the same story, and he’d do it with all kinds of funny voices. So here’s what he used to say.

My grandparents didn’t live in a big city — they had a house in a small town. This story takes place in the late 1950s, a time when small towns didn’t have streetlights. Once the sun went down, the streets turned as spooky as a horror movie.

Right across from my grandparents’ house was a little pond owned by their neighbors. A narrow street separated the two houses. There were two more houses next to the pond, and the leftmost house which was adjacent to the pond was the one that owned it. In that house lived a lady in her early 30s who had epilepsy.

One evening, everyone in her house went out, leaving her alone. When they came back, she was gone. They got really worried and started searching for her. A few days later, they found her dead in the pond. The forensic report said she slipped and fell into the pond, and that’s how she drowned. Her family probably should have been more careful, but let’s not focus on that right now.

After this tragic event, something weird started happening. Every evening, after it got dark, my grandpa and his sister would hear strange sounds. First, there were footsteps approaching the pond, and then there was a splash, like someone falling into the water. This happened every night around 8 PM.

They tried to find out what was causing these sounds, but they never found anyone or anything connected to them.

The spooky story spread throughout the town, and people avoided going near the pond after dark. My grandpa’s house was close to the pond, so they had to listen to these creepy sounds every night.

The strangest part is that these spooky happenings stopped once the town got streetlights. When the darkness went away, so did the ghostly events. It makes me wonder — was the ghost scared of the light? If so, where did she go? Is she still in that house or near the pond? Maybe she lost her ghostly powers. Well, nobody knows for sure!

So, that’s the hair-raising Halloween story from my grandpa’s past. It’s a tale that mixes spooky with mysterious, leaving us with more questions than answers. As Halloween approaches, remember that sometimes the scariest stories are the ones that might have a bit of truth in them. Whether you’re a believer or a skeptic, these ghostly encounters will give you some goosebumps on Halloween night!
